Practice Session for The Plug-In

Saturday, November 7, 2026

Today, John and I headed down to Artemis DC to test out the equipment and make sure I have everything squared away for The Plug-In this Thursday.

We almost didn’t get started! The bartender on duty was at urgent care, and we were about to give up and catch a Lyft home when Jay returned my call just in time.

We finally got inside and started setting up around 3:45.

The main goal was to test the Behringer XR12 mixer and confirm that my iPad could connect to it. Success! I was able to get a good sound through both the house system and the floor monitor I brought along.

I also discovered a few things that will make Thursday easier. Artemis has a standing table that’s the same height as mine, so I may not need to bring my own. They also have a couple of microphone stands I didn’t know about and even a platform to stand on.

John came along and set up his bells, too.

We didn’t actually play any music because people were watching the LSU game, but the experience of setting everything up, testing the equipment, and tearing it all down was valuable. It’s much better to work out these details now than during the show.

The only downside was the cost of the Lyfts. Getting our gear back and forth was pretty expensive, so I’ll be looking into alternatives.

All in all, a productive afternoon. I’m feeling much better prepared for Thursday, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens when we finally get everyone together for The Plug-In!
