A theatrical rock party from the darker side of the galaxy. Based out of Alexandria, VA Sable Drive is an ongoing project born in 2003 as the brainchild of artist Stan Ascher. First emerging as a nameless, somewhat amorphous rock concept, Sable Drive has since grown into a creative force that has united a slew of talented artists to date — its moniker, set in stone more than a decade after its foundation, paying homage to the street where Ascher would throw block parties and meet many of his future collaborators.
“The Lever” is Sable Drive’s high-energy anthem about pushing forward when a collaborator bails without warning. Packed with the band’s trademark punch, playful hand percussion, and sharp wit, the track also carries a lively Spanish flair woven into its groove.
Written by Stan in the aftermath of a failed collaboration with a Spanish artist, the song was born from a promise when the partner walked away that Stan would take the riff they’d been working on and turn it into a song about the fallout itself. “The Lever” delivers on that vow.
